Every student at LS could tell a story about something a teacher has done that is out of the ordinary. For some teachers it is a rare occasion for funny things to happen. Other teachers are known for their humorous stories and pranks.
Math teacher Mr. Hawkins is one of those teachers, students never know what is going to come out of his mouth next. Hawkins often tells his class about the run ins he has with the neighborhood squirrels.
“They are all dead,” Hawkins said when asked about his squirrels. Hawkins has trouble with squirrels getting into his wood roof and often has to take care of them. One time he decided not to kill the squirrel, but instead he painted the squirrel’s tail orange and dropped it off in Independence. The next week he saw a squirrel up in his tree shaking his orange tail at him.
“I put on my gorilla mask and scare kids when they fall asleep,” science teacher Cathy Jones said. Jones is one teacher who enjoys pulling pranks on her students, especially when they fall asleep. She has also been known to paint boys fingernails.
“Waldo is a root tip,” Jones said. Mrs. Jones has a root tip that had quite and odd shape that she named Waldo. Jones hides Waldo around the room and the students have to try to guess where Waldo. They play 20 days of, Where’s Waldo?
Teachers like Jones and Hawkins help make it easier for students to make it through the long school day. They look forward to these classes because they will be entertained. Just make sure you do not fall asleep.
